Famous Last Words: The Things I Did to Avoid Doing My Work
To preface, I feel like the title of this blog might be a little misleading. I think I have been fairly productive this entire week, but I have been bad at doing things that should be pretty high priority. By this I mean, say, studying for my Operating Systems and my Theory of Computation exams I have this upcoming week. Now I have been trying to get ahead in the assignments in this class so that I can focus on those things, which I am proud of what I managed so far, but the problem still is actually sitting down to study... And here I am writing for my blog.
The main reason I wanted to do this kind of blog this week, besides getting some extra credit, was for something I discovered on my day off yesterday (Saturday). First of all, that was the first Saturday I have had off in months thanks to the OU vs. Texas game. I decided to spend it leisurely, instead of studying, by visiting my old roommate and her cat that lived with us. We went to a little store called Craig's Curiosity Emporium (not sponsored) in the Paseo District in Oklahoma City to look at and buy incense and other knickknacks. There is where I found an exciting discovery:
I found some statuettes of Hindu Goddesses and figures! And thanks to this class, I actually knew who they were. The picture above is the eighteen-armed Durga (even though the statuette does not have eighteen arms), one of the Goddesses I am writing about in my storybook project. It is a gorgeous statuette. It is kind of expensive, but I am hoping that maybe after my next paycheck and if it is still there, I can go back and get it... Uh, please nobody go buy it... They also had a figure for Saraswati (the main figure of my storybook), Lakshmi, and I think Rama and Sita together. I do not have pictures of the last two statuettes, otherwise I would show them. Let me tell you, that discovery really made my day yesterday. Maybe if I can convince myself to study and do well on my exams, I can go back there to reward myself...

Molly, this is so cool!!! I have been careful not to get hooked on buying Indian curios because I would go broke (although I see temptations online all the time). It is bad enough that I buy myself lots of comic books from India, ha ha. I love being able to buy comic books at Amazon that come all the way from India! :-)
ReplyDeleteMolly I enjoyed reading this post. The headline really grabbed my attention! I tend to put off my homework as much as possible, and typically use this class as a way to do it. These assignments are way more interesting then my business planning classes! I love the pictures of the goddesses. It's always cool when we can apply what we are learning in class to real life scenarios like that!
ReplyDeleteMolly, I can totally relate in distracting myself from actually studying for something important. I have pushed aside some classes to work ahead in this one as well, though, that does not mean I completely neglected the other classes. I still got my work done on time. That is pretty awesome that you came across some statuettes of some of the goddesses, especially the ones that you have incorporated into your storybook. Good luck on the rest of this semester, attempting not to get distracted, and finishing up the course!
